New release 31 May 2011: Paul J. Abbott 'Cruel Mother' Remix out on Nonclassical label

The fabulous new album by Juice Vocal Ensemble is being released on Nonclassical label.

Juice Vocal Ensemble Songspin Album Cover

Juice are unlike any other classically trained vocal group: with repertoire spanning from avant garde modernism to Eastern European traditional music, and a fresh and wildly experimental approach, it’s unsurprising that their performances have won such acclaim. Sonsgpin is, in effect, a distilled version of everything Juice are about, a collection of songs that’s both elegant and startling, soothing and bracing.

The album combines eleven original tracks with seven remixes (contributors include Bjork collaborator Mikhail Karikis and producer Majiker, who has also remixed Nico Muhly and Fever Ray).

Paul at Gobsmack 3

Paul J. Abbott opened Gobsmack 3 with a live voice and electronics set featuring dark electronic materials and sweet, sometimes operatic vocals. Raw, immediate and deeply personal this set was a departure from the fixed media work which has dominated Paul's back catalogue. Also on the programme: Roshi, E:laine and Kin. A brilliant night.

Following the run-away success of previous Gobsmack events, the night featured an eclectic mix of vocal performers who fuse the voice with multi-media, offering something for everyone with open minds and ears.

Composer and performer with experimental trio Juice, Kerry Andrew, curates the night. Gobsmack has previously had successful events at the Spitz and Bush Hall, featuring Jamie Woon’s folk-inflected loops, the Nordic Curious Voice Duo, avant-garde pop from ‘cellist/vocalist Laura Moody and Mikhail’s adventurous electronica.

Gobsmack is presented by Music Orbit, the forward-thinking network for forward-thinking contemporary musicians.

12 July 2008 - DEBUT ALBUM THREE LEFT LEGACIES- RELEASED

Raw and immediate, this high impact electronica album shatters the boundaries of sonic expectation.

'In Three Left Legacies I have adopted a 'music is music' approach to composition, drawing on the eclectic influences which have helped form my musical language. The heavy metal guitar playing of my teenage years collides with classical and jazz clarinet. Synthetic latin rhythms sizzle amid chaotic noise-art structures, while real-world sounds convulse in a bath of electronica.' PJA
